“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God. Matthew 5:9 (ESV)

How Can We Be Known as Peacemakers?

It begins with being at peace with God.

Jesus said, 27  Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.  John 14:27 (ESV)

1 Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.  2  Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.  Romans 5:1-2 (ESV)

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,  23  gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.  Galatians 5:22-23 (ESV)

6  do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.  7  And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 (ESV)

How to Grow as Peacemakers?

  1. Love Your Neighbor As Yourself.

43  “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’  44  But I say to you, Love your enemies Matthew 5:43-44a (ESV)

18  You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord. Leviticus 19:18 (ESV)

4  if I have repaid my friend with evil or plundered my enemy without cause, 5  let the enemy pursue my soul and overtake it and let him trample my life to the ground and lay my glory in the dust. Psalm 7:4-5 (ESV).

12  “So whatever you wish that others would do to you, do also to them, for this is the Law and the Prophets. Matthew 7:12 (ESV).

  1. Pray For Those Against You.

and pray for those who persecute you,  45  so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 5:44b-45 (ESV)

When we pray for those who are our enemies:

They or their actions no longer control us.
They may be moved to repentance.

  1. Be Perfect As Your Heavenly Father.

45b For he makes his sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46  For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?  47  And if you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?  48  You therefore must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.  Matthew 5:45b-48 (ESV)
