Topic: truth

What is Truth?

The property of being in accord with fact or reality.

Relativism – says that all truth is relative and that there is no such thing as absolute truth

Skepticism – the philosophy of skepticism simply doubts all truth

Postmodernism – Nietzsche described truth like this: “What then is truth? A mobile army of metaphors, metonyms, and anthropomorphisms…truths are illusions…coins which have lost their pictures and now matter only as metal, no longer as coins.”

Pluralism – says that all truth claims are equally valid

What Is Truth For A Believer?

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. John 14:6

9 I wrote to you in my letter not to associate with sexually immoral people— 10 not at all meaning the sexually immoral of this world, or the greedy and swindlers, or idolaters, since then you would need to go out of the world. 11 But now I am writing to you not to associate with anyone who bears the name of brother if he is guilty of sexual immorality or greed, or is an idolater, reviler, drunkard, or swindler—not even to eat with such a one. 12 For what have I to do with judging outsiders? Is it not those inside the church whom you are to judge? 13 God judges those outside. “Purge the evil person from among you.” 1 Corinthians 5:9-13

11 For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, 12 training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age, 13 waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works. 15 Declare these things; exhort and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you. Titus 2:11-15
