Topic: Hard Heart

It's Inevitable

Speaker: Ed Wright

And when we had all fallen to the ground, I heard a voice saying to me in the Hebrew language, ‘Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.’Acts 26:14

Transition Roadblocks:

1) Too Comfortable
Moses spoke thus to the people of Israel, but they did not listen to Moses, because of their broken spirit and harsh slavery.Exodus 6:9 (ESV)
2) Fear
28 On the day when the Lord spoke to Moses in the land of Egypt, 29 the Lord said to Moses, “I am the Lord; tell Pharaoh king of Egypt all that I say to you.” 30 But Moses said to the Lord, “Behold, I am of uncircumcised lips. How will Pharaoh listen to me?” Exodus 6:28-30 (ESV)
3) Pride
But Pharaoh hardened his heart this time also, and did not let the people go. Exodus 8:32 (ESV)

Warning Signs of a Hard Heart
Refusing to listen to reason. Still Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, and he would not listen to them, as the Lord had said. Exodus 7:13 (ESV) Repeating the same thing over and over and getting the same results.Pride trumps persons.5 When the king of Egypt was told that the people had fled, the mind of Pharaoh and his servants was changed toward the people, and they said, “What is this we have done, that we have let Israel go from serving us?” …8 And the Lord hardened the heart of Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he pursued the people of Israel … Exodus 14:5-8 (ESV)

The Lord’s Prayer
Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be your name;
your kingdom come; your will be done; on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, the power and the glory, for ever and ever.
Amen.
