Get God’s Direction

13 When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, for he will take what is mine and declare it to you.  15 All that the Father has is mine; therefore I said that he will take what is mine and declare it to you. John 16:13-15

The Holy Spirit will give us direction in three ways: His Word, Prayer, and Wise Counsel.

  1. He Gives Us Direction Through His Word.

For Purity: How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. Psalm 119:9
For Obedience: I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.Psalm 119:11
For Counsel: Your testimonies are my delight; they are my counselors. Psalm 119:24
For Faith: Forever, O Lord, your word is firmly fixed in the heavens. Psalm 119:89
For Direction: Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. Psalm 119:105

  1. He Gives Us Direction Through Prayer

2 “Thus says the Lord who made the earth, the Lord who formed it to establish it—the Lord is his name: 3 Call to me and I will answer you, and will tell you great and hidden things that you have not known. Jeremiah 33:2-3

What is needed from us as we pray?

  • Effective prayer must be offered in faith.
  • Prayer is based on God’s love for us.
  • We grow in faith from the answered prayers of others.
  • We grow in faith from our own answered prayers.
  1. He Gives Us Direction Through Wise Counsel.

And they said to him, “If you will be a servant to this people today and serve them, and speak good words to them when you answer them, then they will be your servants forever.”  1 Kings 12:7

Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety. Proverbs 11:14

Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed. Proverbs 15:22

But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, open to reason, full of  mercy and good fruits, impartial and sincere.  James 3:17
