A Need for Faith

Faith – Complete trust or confidence that God will show up

“If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” Esther 4:14

5 Themes in Esther that Point to God

  1. God’s sovereignty
  2. God’s hatred for racism
  3. God delivers
  4. God wants us to take action
  5. God provides wisdom

1 How long, LORD? Will you forget me forever? How long will you hide your face from me? 2  How long must I wrestle with my thoughts  and day after day have sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy triumph over me? …5  But I trust in your unfailing love; my heart rejoices in your salvation. 6  I will sing the LORD’s praise, for he has been good to me. Psalm 13:1-2, 5-6

Four Realizations About God

  1. Even when it seems that God is not present – He is
  2. It is difficult to understand suffering when in the middle of the storm
  3. God always has a purpose, and that purpose is always good
  4. It’s OK to doubt God, but never deny Him

Faith motivates courageous action. Humility restrains us from acting rashly.

24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord!” But he said to them, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe.” 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you!” 27 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.” 28 Thomas said to him, “My Lord and my God!” 29 Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” John 20:24-29
