Re|Engage is a marriage enrichment program at Heartland Church!  It started 12+ years ago at Watermark Church in Dallas, Texas. Marriages in any condition can benefit, whether you are struggling to get along, your marriage is broken, or you simply want to grow closer together as a couple. Re|Engage examines God’s design for marriage and applies principles from the Bible to guide couples towards growth in their relationship with each other. You can expect to:

Receive encouragement by hearing stories from other couples that have experienced victory in the midst of hard times.

Be placed in a small group with a facilitator couple and other couples to work through a 16-lesson curriculum.

If you have any questions, or would like more information contact Ed at (309) 452-7335 or ed@heartcc.org. Since Re|Engage at Watermark is our model, check out Re|Engage there. Visit http://marriagehelp.org/

FAQ

WHEN IS THE NEXT 16 WEEK SESSION?  Please contact Ed Wright, ed@heartcc.org or (309) 452-7335 for the latest “next session”.

WHEN/WHERE DO WE MEET? Meetings are held on Wednesday nights from 7:00 – 8:30 pm, in Room #13.

WHAT IS THE ORIGIN OF RE|ENGAGE?   This program was launched at Watermark Community Church, Dallas Tx in September 2008 and has since expanded to other churches in the DFW area and nationwide.  This obviously includes Heartland Community Church, Normal, IL.

WHAT DOES A TYPICAL NIGHT AT RE|ENGAGE “LOOK LIKE”?  The format for Wednesday night is as follows:

  • 7:00-7:30pm – Large Group Time (occasional worship plus testimony/teaching)
  • 7:40-8:30pm – Small Group Time (different options)
    • Closed Group: When/if you and your spouse decide to join a small group, we’ll put you in a group with 4-5 other couples and a facilitator couple, and you’ll work through a Re|Engage participant’s guide together. Once this group starts, you can expect it to last 16 weeks.

WILL I BE ASKED A LOT OF PERSONAL QUESTIONS AT RE|ENGAGE?  There is no personal sharing required during the large group meeting. Though we encourage you to remain active in group discussion, any personal sharing during the small group meetings is voluntary.

HOW DO I KNOW THAT WHAT I SHARE AT RE|ENGAGE WILL BE KEPT CONFIDENTIAL?  WILL IT BE A SAFE PLACE TO SHARE?  We believe that scripture calls us to refrain from gossip and we ask all participants and facilitators to adhere to the guidelines that what is discussed in the group stays in the group.  Re|Engage facilitators are encouraged to operate under the direction of God’s Word in handling the information shared in the group.  In order to provide a safe environment, the facilitators have committed to not share information about others outside the group except in the event of the threat of physical, emotional or spiritual injury, then to be dealt with under the guidance of Re|Engage staff.

CAN I BE HONEST WITH PEOPLE ABOUT WHAT IS GOING ON IN OUR MARRIAGE? Our prayer is that you will feel safe to share within your small group. We find that the more authentic and transparent couples can be with others, the more they find hope and healing within their marriage.

IS RE|ENGAGE MARRIAGE COUNSELING?  Re|Engage is not marriage counseling and the leaders are facilitators, not counselors. They are also growing in their own marriages. Everyone in the group is on the journey to oneness in marriage. We believe that openness and honesty in a small group setting, using Biblically-based curriculum, is where God works to grow and resurrect marriages.

DO YOU PROVIDE CHILD CARE?  Yes, we do provide childcare for children 0-5th Grade at no cost.  Donations for childcare are welcomed.  Children can be dropped off at the Little Kidco check-in, before Re|Engage large group, and must be picked up by 8:35 pm.

CAN I JUST COME AND VISIT, OR DO I HAVE TO COMMIT TO SOMETHING?  Until you join a closed group, there is no commitment necessary.  In the future (Fall, 2016), your first night you will join us at 7:00 pm for a large group time of teaching or testimony, and then you will go to the newcomers group. The newcomers group is a great place for you to hear more about the heart and history behind Re|Engage, and give you a chance to ask any questions that you might have.

HOW MUCH TIME EACH WEEK OUTSIDE OF THE MEETING IS REQUIRED TO BE PART OF RE|ENGAGE?  Completion of the curriculum will take approximately 15-20 minutes each week.  The time required will vary, but it is designed for minimal time commitment.

WHAT COMMITMENT DO I HAVE TO MAKE?  Once you join a closed group, working through the Re|Engage curriculum will require a 16 week commitment.  This is the time in which the group is working through the curriculum together.

I DON’T KNOW IF I’LL HAVE A MARRIAGE BY THE END OF THE MONTH.  IS RE|ENGAGE A GOOD PLACE FOR US?  Absolutely! There are many couples who have attended, or are attending, who are separated or divorced. While the outcome is based on the work each individual is willing to do to save their marriage, the platform provides a safe place to focus on what a healthy marriage should look like, and it provides some tools to help grow toward this goal.

WE DON’T LIKE SPENDING TIME WITH EACH OTHER ANYMORE. WILL WE HAVE TO INTERACT TOGETHER?  While you will be in a small group together, each of you will be sharing about what you learn personally each week. However, there are some exercises that may require you to interact with each other throughout the process.

I HAVE NO HOPE ANYMORE.  IS THIS A PLACE WHERE WE CAN FIND HOPE?  Our prayer is that you will find hope that can come through allowing God to do a mighty work within your marriage.

MY MARRIAGE IS DOING WELL.  CAN WE BENEFIT BY ATTENDING RE|ENGAGE?  Whether your marriage needs to be reignited, or is in need of a complete resurrection, Re|Engage is a safe place for couples to reconnect.

WE HAVE ONLY BEEN MARRIED FOR 6 MONTHS.  CAN WE STILL COME?  Absolutely!  In fact, participating in Re|Engage at this stage in your marriage is a great idea!  The program will provide a strong foundation for your marriage.

WE ARE THINKING ABOUT GETTING MARRIED (OR ARE ENGAGED).  IS THIS MINISTRY FOR US?  We suggest you elect to focus on marriage preparation through a pre-marital class with one of our pastors.  If you would like more information on the pre-marital sessions with a pastor, please contact Paula Reich in our church office, (309) 452-7335 or at paula@heartcc.org
